Do we need big fediverse instances?

I'm an administrator of a quite big fediverse instance and I'm still wondering if this is a good or a bad thing.

Probably for users with non technical background a big instance is the easiest way to enter in the fediverse, but there are lots of downsizes.

Just a few of them:

From the other side, a single / family instance requires less resources and probably few moderation. But the user is also an administrator, so there is the need of spending time to do all that job behind the scenes...

The positive news is that there is space on the fediverse for both big and small instances depending on user's needs.
